My name is Kent Combs, and my journey has taken me from the beautiful practice of Aikido to the high-pressure world of culinary arts, and finally, to the serene and fulfilling realm of holistic healing as a Reiki Master and Qi Gong instructor.

I was drawn to Aikido at a young age. The philosophy of Aikido emphasizes reconciliation and peace over violence. It taught me the invaluable lesson of moving with the flow of nature rather than fighting against it. This principle has guided me throughout my life, helping me navigate life’s trials and tribulations.

As a child, I struggled in school due to my dyslexia. Traditional education was a difficult, but I found solace and courage in Aikido. The discipline and focus required in the dojo provided a sanctuary from the challenges I faced in the classroom. Despite these challenges, I was determined to find my path and make my mark on the world. At 16, I made a bold decision to pursue my passion for cooking by enrolling in Le Cordon Bleu. This decision would shape the next decade and a half of my life in ways I could never have imagined.

Graduating from Le Cordon Bleu at the age of 17, I became the youngest graduate in the institution’s history. This unlikely achievement launched a 15-year career in the culinary arts, during which I explored various facets of the profession. I worked in fine dining establishments, served as a private chef, operated my own catering company, and taught cooking classes. My specialty was Pacific Northwest cuisine, and I used contemporary techniques to tell stories through food, celebrating the region’s rich natural bounty.

However, the culinary world is not without its challenges. The high-pressure environment of professional kitchens exposed me to the debilitating effects of stress. I witnessed firsthand how constant stress could lead to severe mental health issues, physical ailments, and addictions. Many of my colleagues struggled with these issues. Some even faced tragic outcomes, ending up in prison or succumbing to overdoses. These experiences deeply affected me and led me to question whether there was a better way to live and work.

In 2020, I decided to make a change. I hung up my apron and left the culinary industry. I sought a new path that would allow me to heal myself and help others find peace and wellness. I became an Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master practitioner and teacher. I founded my private clinical practice: Reiki Family. The Reiki Family practice is focused on helping people with infertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and family care. Through Reiki, I work to provide holistic care that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit.

Around this same time, I was introduced to Qi Gong. Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese practice that combines physical postures, effortless flowing movements, breathing techniques, and meditation to cultivate health and spiritual well-being. Initially skeptical, I began practicing Qi Gong. Over several months of dedicated practice, I felt my body, emotions, and consciousness begin to heal in a way I didn’t know was possible. For example, I no longer need to wear glasses, a testament to the transformative power of Qi Gong. My focus and stamina improved. I experienced more joy and less burden from trauma and grief of past experiences.

Teaching Qi Gong has become one of the most fulfilling aspects of my life. I believe that it is the most valuable contribution I can make to society. My classes are more than just physical exercises; they are journeys of self-discovery and healing. Through Qi Gong and Reiki, I help my students discover health, happiness, and harmony. Students learn to transform stress into vitality. They connect deeply with their inner selves and the natural world. Qi Gong fosters a profound sense of balance and peace, both within oneself and in rhythms of nature.

Outside of my professional pursuits, I remain deeply connected to nature. I enjoy foraging in through local foothills where I discover wild edibles and medicinal plants that reinforce my holistic approach to life. Foraging not only nourishes my body but also strengthens my connection to the environment. I also find joy and camaraderie in playing pickleball, a sport that keeps me active and engaged. At home, I care for my pet Bearded Dragon, Teetee, whose tranquil presence adds another layer of calm and connection to my life.

From my early lessons in aikido to my achievements in the culinary world and my current role as a holistic healer, each phase of my life has been guided by the principles of peace and balance. My experiences have shown me that profound change often begins with small steps. I have also seen how perseverance and the pursuit of peace can lead to a deeply fulfilling life.

My story is likely to be much like your own. It demonstrates the impact of unexpected turns and the power of embracing the interconnectedness of our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves. I’m constantly humbled, and inspired, by my students. They are my greatest teachers. I am committed to helping people find balance, fulfillment, purpose and peace. Through Qi Gong and Reiki, I strive to foster a community grounded in health, vitality, and harmonious living, guiding others on their paths to well-being and inner harmony.
